How do I connect my GUM Playbrush via Bluetooth?

Modified on Fri, 26 Jul at 1:23 PM

Launching the app, shaking your Playbrush Smart/Pressing the button on the GUM Playbrush or Playbrush Smart Sonic until the light blinks and Playbrush is just not connecting?

Prepare the brush for connection:

  • Make sure that the GUM Playbrush / Playbrush Smart Sonic flashes blue slowly and the Playbrush Smart flashes green when you take it off the charging station

Establish Bluetooth only via the app (not via the Bluetooth settings of the cell phone)

  • It is important that you do not actively establish the Bluetooth connection between your GUM Playbrush and your smartphone or tablet in the settings (do not actively pair), GUM Playbrush does this on its own
    • If you have paired the brush directly via the Bluetooth settings of your cell phone, please delete your Bluetooth cache

Allow Bluetooth access:

  • If you are using an Android smartphone or tablet, please make sure that you grant the "GUM Playbrush" app access to "Nearby devices". This setting must be approved for Bluetooth use of the app. If you have rejected "Nearby devices", you can enable them again
    • Settings > Apps > Manage apps > "GUM Playbrush" > App permissions > Nearby devices
  • For Android 12 and below, please grant the app permission for location tracking. GUM Playbrush does not actually use the location, but Bluetooth falls under the location settings for Android 12 and lower.

  • If you are using an iPhone or iPad, please make sure that you allow our apps to use Bluetooth. To do this, go to your iOS settings -> search for the app -> allow the use of Bluetooth.

If you are still having troubles connecting your Playbrush, please try the following:

  1. Deactivate Bluetooth
  2. Uninstall the app
  3. Restart smartphone/tablet
  4. Install the app and allow permissions requested during installation
    1. Android: "Nearby devices" or "Location" (for Android 12 and lower)
    2. iPhone: Allow Bluetooth
  5. Activate Bluetooth (DO NOT pair the brush via the Bluetooth settings)
  6. Activate Playbrush
  7. Open the app and Playbrush will connect automatically
